OUR CMU ROOTS

Rob Cochran, our Chairman & CEO, is a 1987 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, earning dual degrees in applied mathematics and industrial management.

Rob joined #1 Cochran fresh from CMU and took the reins of the company four years later as his father, Bob Cochran, became ill and ultimately passed away in 1993. Since then, Rob has grown the family business to become on of the 50 largest automotive retailer in the nation, now with 35 dealerships representing 20 brands throughout Western Pennsylvania and Northeastern Ohio.

An ardent supporter of CMU, Rob credits the university with shaping his passion for innovation, leadership and entrepreneurship. He often reflects on a message delivered during his commencement by CMU’s then-president Richard Cyert. The message became a guiding force throughout Rob’s career. Dr. Cyert stated:

“You are all bright – well prepared. But those in this world who make the most impact will find it within themselves to challenge the status quo and conventionality. They will find the courage to dare to disturb the universe.”
